Selected as Youth Technical Expert for the African Youth Charter @20 Appraisal

Selected as Youth Technical Expert for the African Youth Charter @20 Appraisal

Twenty years ago — on 2 July 2006, in Banjul, The Gambia — the African Union adopted the African Youth Charter. Today, on its 20th Anniversary, we honour that commitment with action.

I am deeply honored to announce my selection as one of the 20 exceptional Youth Technical Experts — representing Nigeria and the West African region — who will lead the AYC@20 Appraisal. This marks the most comprehensive continental review of the Charter’s implementation in its history, organized by the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in partnership with YouLead Africa and Restless Development.

The Cohort

Selected from over 1,200 applicants across the continent, our cohort consists of 12 women and 8 men, aged 21 to 32, fluent across all 6 AU official languages. We are researchers, diplomats, peacebuilders, economists, legal scholars, and advocates.

"Dominion is the youngest expert in this cohort — and her presence is entirely deliberate. The African Youth Charter was adopted to protect and empower young people exactly like her: a young Nigerian woman, still at the beginning of her journey, whose voice carries the urgency, clarity and moral authority that only comes from being the generation most directly affected by the Charter’s promises."

As Expert #05 of 20, representing West Africa’s most populous nation, I look forward to bringing fresh generational insight and grassroots civic engagement experience to this appraisal. Our work will contribute directly to the Africa Youth Charter @20 Appraisal Report, a Continental Policy Brief, and the Africa Governance Report (AGR) 2027.

Happy 20th Anniversary, African Youth Charter. The work is only beginning.
